K838K cardboard, K535K cardboard, K636K cardboard, and K535A cardboard are all actually five-ply corrugated cardboard. The “k/a” designation refers to the liner or face paper; the basis weight of the liner and face paper can vary among manufacturers. With the exception of some special grades, K-grade paper is generally considered high-quality across major suppliers. The numbers “5,” “6,” “8,” etc., indicate the flute size, while “3” denotes the core paper. Typically, K-grade paper is used as the liner, and “6” usually refers to a reinforced core paper that forms the flutes in the corrugated board. The reinforcing core material in “6”-grade paper is significantly harder than that in standard K-grade paper. Similarly, there are also “7”-grade and “8”-grade reinforced cores, both of which offer superior wear resistance and compressive strength compared with ordinary paper.
